Matthew’s headed to #occupysandy today with a big box of bandanas for the volunteers.
According to their site, “Occupy Sandy is a coordinated relief effort to help distribute resources & volunteers to help neighborhoods and people affected by Hurricane Sandy. We are a coalition of people & organizations who are dedicated to implementing aid and establishing hubs for neighborhood resource distribution. Members of this coalition are from Occupy Wall Street, 350.org, recovers.org and interoccupy.net.”

Sleek & Destroy, though based in Brooklyn, has not been overly affected by the hurricane. Some shipping has been delayed, but expect your orders to mostly arrive on time. In the meantime, our hearts go out to those in New York, New Jersey, and the surrounding areas still without power, water, and shelter. In an effort to put his unique talents to good use, Matthew has become involved with #HurricaneHackers: a space for gathering & sharing information, and organizing tech+social projects related to Hurricane Sandy.
If you’re able to help, there are several organizations that you can support or become involved with. Here’s a list of groups working on relief efforts.
American Red Cross:

If you’re in New Jersey and want to volunteer to help clean up, there is more information available here.
Here is another article on How to Help in the Aftermath, as well as another list of helpful organizations that need support.
NonsenseNYC has also collected together a fine list of people and projects that require aid, many that need actual labour, “not your donations or clicks”. Their latest newsletter began with, “The most important thing to understanding what’s going on is to actually go to the areas that need attention. People who need help will not always ask for it, or be able to ask for it. This is a do-it-yourself guide: call or internet if you can, but ultimately just go.”
Here are some of their suggestions:

You can also follow the relief effort as it’s documented across Tumblr.

Matthew recently made a striking Oiija Board themed necklace as a personalized gift for Libby Bulloff of Exoskeleton Cabaret. It turned out so handsomely that it’s going to serve as the prototype for a new piece!

The final design will be smaller than the unique original, but the finished necklace will also feature a laser-cut wooden planchette pendant elegantly framed by helping hands. A conduit from the spirit world to wear over your heart, our Ouija planchettes are a nod to the beginning of the Spiritualism movement of the mid-nineteenth century and a bold statement of personal responsibility.

Matthew really likes the wee little grump faces from the show Game Grumps, so he decided to cut some scrumptious grump key-chains out and send them to the creators. In thanks, they gave Sleek & Destroy a shout-out on their show!
Here they are in their grumpy glory:
